We are a small family operated Aviary. We breed almost exclusively Pyrrhura Conures. In addition we offer several other species of parrots. As everyone knows, you can’t just have one type of bird. We do only have quieter type birds. This is for our own peace and sanity.
All of our hand feed babies are well socialized in our house. They are pulled at no later than two weeks old and then are hand fed until weaned. They are always around children, other birds, and other house pets which include both dogs and cats. We feel that this allows them to adjust from an early age to a busy house hold so that when they are in there new home they are not scared of the new surroundings. We feel this makes them far more well adjusted and a far better pet.
We wean all of our babies to fresh veggies, fruits, and pellets. They are not weaned to seeds since we don’t feel that that is the best possible diet. It is much easier to offer them seeds if you so choose once you have your bird in it’s new home than to try and switch it over to pellets. This gives you the flexibility to choose your diet with minimal effort. It is much easier to switch between brands of pellets than to actually switch from seeds to pellets. I am not saying seeds are bad. I personally feed my breeder pairs seeds. It is just one part of there total diet just not their total diet.
We currently have about 65 pair of breeder birds. Of those 50% are Pyrrhura’s.
